Cecilia

Cecilia is 87. She has lived from farming and raising chickens, and for part of her life she was the midwife in El Zonte, the woman who assisted at births.

Almost every day she can be seen going down and back up the cobbled slope, 1.4 km of it, that runs from the road to her small house. She uses a walking stick, carries up what she has bought and sells soft drinks and sweets in her little shop. She also helps look after one of her granddaughters.

She has had electricity for a couple of years now. She still has no drinking water.

For most of her life she was without teeth. Her age and her finances were always a barrier to dental care. That is no longer the case.
